Aisling Leavy is the Head of the STEM Education Department at Mary Immaculate College – University of Limerick. She is a mathematics educator and works with pre-service primary teachers, practicing teachers and graduate students in STEM Education. Her research interests include children’s mathematical thinking, the development of statistical reasoning, the mathematics preparation of pre-service teachers, and use of teaching and research methodologies to support the development of conceptual understanding of statistics and mathematics in primary classrooms.
Aisling is currently joint General Editor of
Irish Educational Studies and Associate Editor of
Statistics Educational Research Journal. She received her PhD from Arizona State University following completion of graduate and undergraduate studies at California State University Chico, St. Patrick’s College Drumcondra, and University College Dublin. Prior to joining the faculty at Mary Immaculate College, Aisling was Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Maryland, College Park.
